Bio

Hi there! My name is Rish and I am a medical student at USC's Keck School of Medicine. I studied Psychobiology at UCLA and completed a Master's in Community Health at Stanford before starting medical school. I have experience leading clinical research trials, systematic reviews, and qualitative research, and I am grateful to have published my work in academic journals and presented at national conferences. I have specific interests in oncology and the psychosocial experience patients have throughout their treatment. Research has been such an important part of my journey in medicine, and I look forward to helping you in your journey too! When I am not working at the hospital, I love all things sports (go Lakers!), cooking, and traveling! I am also constantly experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, most recently adventuring into making pizza from scratch.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Understanding the Emotional and Social Challenges Faced by Teenagers Supporting a Parent With Cancer: A Qualitative Analysis

This project aims to explore how teenagers experience and cope with having a parent undergoing cancer treatment. While current literature focuses on patients and adult caregivers, the voices of adolescent family members are often overlooked. This project would entail conducting semi-structured interviews and performing qualitative analysis to learn how cancer affects family dynamics, school life, emotional well-being, and social support for teenage cancer caregivers.

Teaching experience

I'm so thankful for all of the mentors that have helped me along my journey! I feel strongly about passing it forward and helping the next generation of scholars achieve their goals. While I was at UCLA for undergrad, I spent my time mentoring middle school students create and present science projects for their annual science fair. Since graduating, I now mentor fellows peers in medical school while they prepare for board exams and other college students at USC and UCLA as they prepare to apply for medical school. No matter where you are in your journey, I look forward to helping you in any way I can!
