Bio
Hi all! I am Karim Abdelhalim. Originally, I grew up in Cairo, Egypt, just 15 minutes away from the breathtaking Great Pyramids of Giza! I have earned my Doctor of Pharmacy degree recently from Rutgers University and have a passion for research, discovery, and mentorship. My academic experiences span both clinical and laboratory research, from synthesizing small-molecule immune checkpoint inhibitors that target cancer pathways to investigating improvements in stroke treatments and antimicrobial stewardship. These projects have strengthened my skills in study design, data analysis, and scientific communication by presenting at national conferences. I enjoy passing such skills on to students who are eager to explore research for the first time! Currently, I am continuing my post-doctoral training in a competitive two-year program that combines direct clinical and patient care experience in the first year with industry-based research at a global pharmaceutical company in the second. Beyond research, I have served as Vice President of both the Academic Mentoring Program and the Rho Chi Honor Society at Rutgers, where I guided students in developing their scientific knowledge and confidence. I am excited to bring this mentoring experience by helping high school students explore their own creative questions and develop meaningful projects. Outside of academics, I enjoy keeping up with new clinical trials of promising therapies, watching and playing soccer, and exploring different cultures through travel and cuisine.Project ideas
Promising role of Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) in Cancer Treatment over Traditional Chemotherapies
Research the mechanisms and the promising patient trial data of how and why ADCs provide a promising therapeutic approach compared to the non-specific cytotoxic chemotherapeutics. The final product should be a review research paper that can be published.
Addressing Common Barriers to Patient Access to Medications
There are plenty of scenarios where patients are not able to access ideal therapies for their survival from insurance issues to product backorder. Explore some of these barriers and provide a guide on how healthcare professionals can navigate around these issues.
A Mobile Application that can Help Reduce Patient Risk of Negative Outcomes
There are multiple scoring tools that clinicians utilize to access the risk of patients in certain disease condition. What if we create an app that has some of these tools that are patient-friendly? This way patients can navigate these tools and get an understanding of what their risk are for certain conditions and that they may need to eat more healthy, be sure to be adherant to their medications, or seek medical attention.
